What part of Eastern KS? I grew up in Overland Park and hope to be moving back this summer...

That isn't a Scincella lateralis. They don't get anywhere near that big. My first thought was Plestiodon obsoletus (great plains skink) but I'm not as familiar with the herps in that area so I asked a very knowledgeable friend from Kansas and he agreed.

Ahahaha whoah!! I never noticed your location! You live like...20 minutes from me. xD crazy, crazy. Looking to actually work in Topeka. I've got my eye on Stonehouse vet clinic. The weather is AWFUL! However, I was in the hospital all day yesterday and bedrest all day today, so thankfully I haven't been affected much. When I can limp over to his tank, tho, Axel's appreciating it. His humidity is so good! haha.

@inknsteel- I live in Ozawkie, which is a tiny town right by Oskaloosa (another tiny town..) My dad works in Mission, KS, which I think is in the same general area as Overland Park. Move back! Haha, I have no idea why I love KS...Horrid weather. But...I AM incredibly fond of it.
