Your best bet is to look online for a local Herp club. I moved out to AZ this last summer and found an Arizona chapter Herp club. They schedule field herping trips. This was an amazing opportunity to meet other enthusiasts and a great opportunity to learn (I couldn't go to the one in April because I was in So Cal getting married).
