Road bikes are a whole other world; I used to commute to work on a mountain bike, and when the frame finally cracked after 10+ years of hard use, I went to a road bike. My commute time dropped by about 20% just from switching to a faster bike (hence my [somewhat] joking sig line). I really believe that (on road, at least) MTBs are for slow people. Off-road and downhill use, I have nothing but respect for, but people who ride MTBs on pavement are just straight-up doing it wrong, as I found out when I stopped being one of them.
Mountain bikes are for slow people, and reptiles are far better pets than cats & dogs!
