This photo tells the whole story, that normal is trying to or already has locked up the pastel, females do not do this, males do.
If the pastel is a male you're not going to make any babies this way

Re: ball python female or is she a male trying to breed with my pastel male im lost
You should look up some popping videos on Youtube. Ralph Davis has a couple of good ones. Or, have someone (like a breeder) show you how, or do it for you.
At this point, the male should have sperm plugs come out when you try to pop them. You don't even need to get the hemipenes out, just see if sperm plugs come out. It's a dead giveaway for a male...
Since you know the pastel is def. a male, try him first and see if sperm plugs come out. He is definitely big enough to have them. Then you can see what they look like.

Thanks. He's on loan to me so I won't know what his babies look like for a little while yet.

Paperwork doesn't guarantee gender. Snakes that are sexed as female should really be sexed as "probable female" until she produces a clutch of eggs. Just my thought on the matter. I've heard from so many people who are frustrated after purchasing a female this or that only to find out later on that it's actually a male. Breeders can/do/will make mistakes.
Males that are sparring will lock, as is the case in the pic I posted earlier of the pied and pastel males. They are both boys, no doubt about it. The pied definitely has no affection for that pastel, either. That lock in the photo was preceded by just a few minutes of thrashing and puffing by both boys. It was really the only thing that put the pied into breeding mode.

You've got the sexes backwards - male's probe deep, females probe shallow. The probe is essentially gliding down into an inverted hemipene - so it will go further. The female just has tiny pockets where the male's hemipenes are.

Suprised nobody has mentioned clenching males that won't let you probe them and deep probing females. I have one that goes 5 and 6 scales that gave me 8 eggs last year.........
I'd try and squeeze some plugs out to be sure.
