ANOTHER new addition... G. Rosea
So at the local reptile store today with my dad, I was picking up a couple crickets for the little x. Immanis' first meal here. My dad was always interested in a rose, so he tagged along to look at them. Much to my surprise, he calls the employee over and asks to buy one rout there!
So I came home with another new T, I'd estimate her legspan to be about 3 inches:

Since I wasn't really prepared for another T, especially not a desert one, my coco husk was a little too damp for her liking, so she'll be chilling on the walls til it dries out a little in a couple of days...
What do you all think?
P.S. As you can clearly see, I haven't quite mastered the art of tarantula photography lol. She's a total sweet heart though, so getting more pics won't be too hard.

Thanks, and she (I don't know if she's a she yet, waiting for a molt to tell, but I'm hoping for a girl!) Is completely chill. Didn't kick any bristles, didn't threat posture, nothing. I just opened the carrying container and she walked on out, totally calm and everything.

Congrats. I am not scared of spiders in the least but have never had a desire to own one. Maybe I'll give it a try someday. As long as I can feed them F/T! Just kidding...
Regards,

If you're ever thinking of getting one, you definitely should. They're actually pretty calming, I find (except for my other T, little world class sprinter that one!) And yes, my camera works, but my gallery still doesn't! I don't know why it hasn't been letting me put pics up for the longest time :S

I've got the same problem. I wish I could get over the fear of spiders.
Congratulations on your new addition.

They're kind oh like snakes when you think about handling - some species are known to be a lot easier to handle than others. For instance, the g. Rosea would be more like a ball python, whereas things in the poecilotheria family (the Indian ornamentals) and any of the old world tarantulas would be more like GTPs. Of course there are always exceptions, but usually that's how it is.
The vast majority of tarantula venom is really not that potent, especially the new world tarantulas. Most of them will cause a little discomfort (itching or burning), and depending on the potency of their venom it will last from a couple days to maybe a week. Some people can be very sensitive to tarantula venom (they have a more intense reaction) and there are a few old world species that have medically significant venom that you'll want to have checked out if you get bitten, but I don't think there have actually been any deaths associated with T bites, even from those who are more sensitive.
The actual damage from a bite besides a little redness, itching and a bit of swelling (though they don't always inject venom, so it could well be a dry bite) is usually not that bad, unless you get bitten by one of the giants because they can have fangs that get up to a little under an inch long...
Sorry if this is a little long haha
