    Het Pied??

Hey, i was wondering if it would be a good idea to try any prove out my normal. She was bought from petsmart 1 1/2 back as a first snake. Only just yesterday i saw she had really strong markers. They are nice and solid with white over top of them. Looks the same as a het. pied to me. Is there a good chance shes a pied? PM me for pics please. I am on a different computer and i have no pics but i will if you ask thanks.

I'm also curious about the possibilities of "normals" from petsmarts and petcos actually being het for anything. They come from large suppliers/wholesalers (for example, California Zoological in the pacific northwest), who often times produce lots of morphs as well as normals. Is it possible these "normals" in pet stores carry genes like the OP is asking about a poss het pied, but are being sold as visual normals? Any been proven out?

I'm certain that there are a ton of "normals" out there that are hets for something. Have fun trying to prove them out

    Thumbs up Re: Het Pied??

I wish het pied markers were a sure-fire way of telling I mean what does it hurt to try and prove out your girl? Pick up a het-pied boy... you can get them for hardly anything. It's the girls that are most expensive.. and see what you get!

Too bad it isn't instant gratification, otherwise I'd try. lol. There is a really beautiful 'normal' girl at the petstore I work at. She looks very similar to the "pastels" we've had come in.. that started out looking normal, then faded into an orangey lighter yellow after a couple months. She has bright orange-ish patches all allong her sides.

Markers on normal bp's don't really mean anything.... I have a few bp's that I know 100% aren't het. pied, but have markers just like one. The only way that I would use markers to identify any possible het. bp is if I know that at least one of the parents carried the gene. Even then there is no guarantee....

I honestly think you are wasting your time, but I would love to see some more public "het pied markers" that didn't turn out to be het pied, so maybe we can finally put all this marker stuff behind us. its not like you bought your snake from BHB where there is a small chance that you got a possible het that he didn't feel like selling, het pied from petco... not likely.

Our local pet store has some really nice looking normals. One is very dark and another really light. They were coiled up together the last time I was in and it stopped me in my tracks. If they weren't $70 each I would probably pick them out and see what happens.

    Re: Het Pied??

There's only one way to find out and that's to try it,... Good Luck . It's not like some people don't sell their snakes to pet stores poss Hets,.. Hets or not. For what ever reason they may have,.. unable to move them online or what ever.

Think, Tink and Dinker away,... what's the worst that could happen.
