You will need to buy either snakes that are visual piebalds or snakes that are het for piebald. Or a combination of visuals and hets.

You will of course need at least one male and one female.

Hets, just in case you are not familiar with them, are animals that recessively carry the gene, in this case piebald, but do not visually express the gene.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Thanks! So I would much rather two that show visuals then just a het for piebald. Then the clutch would more likely yield visual piebalds.

So what is the difference between a het for piebald and a het pied? Thats what I was actually stuck on.

If you breed 2 visual piebalds, all of the babies will be piebalds.

If you breed a visual piebald to a het piebald, 50% of the babies should be piebalds.

If you breed 2 het piebalds, 25% of the babies should be piebalds.

Pied is just a short name for Piebald, nothing else. It would be like calling someone named Jennifer, Jenn.

    Hope this helps,

    John

They are the same thing. Piebald has been shortened to pied for most conversations.

They both yield pieds, if the het pieds are 100% het for pied then they will produce visual pieds. And yes, piebald and pied are the same thing, some are lazy like me and it's easier to say/type pied.

Re: WHat to breed to get a Piebalds?

Het Pied and Het for Pied are the same thing really. A het pied looks like a normal ball python, If you wanted a pastel or some other snake that has the pied gene a lot of people say it's a pastel het for pied. It's just the way it's worded. One warning, if you do get Het pieds make SURE it's from a reputable breeder. You really can't tell a normal from a het. There are a few markers to look for but none of them are 100%. Personally I went with visual pied. I know it cost me more to start out but i also know 100% they are pieds.
Too many snakes to list. Ball pythons, Gtp's and Boa's. It easier to say it that way.

Re: WHat to breed to get a Piebalds?

Thank you guys! You are all so very helpful! I think I have a full understanding now..well atleast until I get them home and start the breeding process and then I will be learning all over again!

I might should put this in my original message but I dont know if i can edit that one so I will ask here and then go check! Any suggestions on a reputable/ trustworthy breeder that has het pieds for sale? Any suggestions on where to look for piebalds that are visual that won't rip me a new one, so to speak?

I purchased my het piebald pair from Paul Fisher. He is a great guy to work with and my pair has produce a piebald for me. I would not hesitate to purchase a het from Paul in the future.

    Here is his web site:
