I agree with most others...Who cares if he struck at you? It happens to me every day. Snakes strike for two reasons...Defense and Hunger. Your situation sounds like a defensive strike...Probably due to the pain he is in or being insecure.

How about some pictures of the snakes tail and his enclosure. I would imagine that would help us answer your questions.
