Het Pied Project - Prediction time!

This is my first breeding season and the first clutch to drop was my het pied x het pied. It's day 48, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see these little guys hatch!

Here's the morning I found Piper as she was laying her clutch (You can probably tell in the video that it's my first time. Just a wee bit excited):

Momma wrapping her eggs (I moved them to an incubator shortly after this):

She layed eight eggs total, all of which have candled with strong veins and are showing movement as of three days ago. I don't have any current pics of the eggs, but I can take some and post them, if you'd like.

Here's where the story gets interesting: I trust the breeder that I got my male from (Justin from Australian Addiction Reptiles, good guys), but I got the female from an unknown guy on the local classifieds, and, looking back, I'm not sure how trustworthy he was (he tried to sell me a regular pastel as a pastel butter, for example). So there's a chance that I just wasted a breeding season by breeding het pied x normal because the female doesn't carry the gene at all. Needless to say, I've got my fingers (and toes) crossed.

So here's the big question. How many pieds do you think I've got in there? If I got the parents right and get exactly the what the odds say, I'll get two (25%), but it's all a roll of the dice, right? Do you think I got snookered and they'll all come out visible normals? Will I get one? Two? More?

Post your best guess! I'll update with pics when things start getting exciting (Friday is day 52, so we shouldn't have to wait too much longer).

    Cool Vid!

I hope you have some pieds in there! You may be able to see pattern on them and see if they're white in the next few days by candling them.

    Good Luck!

I voted you got fleeced, cause I don't trust many people on ksl classifieds to know much about their snakes...

    Technically 25% chances per eggs.

My first year shooting for pieds I hatch 4 pieds out of 8 eggs

Now since you have doubt about your female try not to get too excited just in case she does not prove out.

Also remember if she does not prove this time around it does not mean you should rule her out as a het pied it might take another try to prove her out, all depends on your luck

Hopefully she will prove out for you and you will hatch a few pieds

At day 48 you should be able to tell how many pieds you have if you have a good light for candling. It's pretty easy to see the pattern through the egg.

Maybe my light isn't bright enough, because I can see veins and shadows, but no patterns at all. And it seems to me like a pretty bright light.

Maybe that just means they're all high white pieds. Never hurts to think positive. Honestly, who knows how it will turn out but I will vote the best possible odds if for no other reason than to show the Odds Gods that I wish good fortune on others so maybe they will give it to me as well!

Good luck, may the Pieds be with you!

Are you candling in a pitch dark room?

Re: Het Pied Project - Prediction time!

Can we see a pic of the females belly? If she carries the het pied marker, I would feel more hopeful than if she didn't...Although some het pieds have no markers and some normals carrie a "marker". Just my thoughts. My gut says you got fleeced, but Good luck! Here's to some Pieds!
