help please.
I have my first bp. I have had him/her for about 3 weeks. I got it from pet smart.(I know never buy a snake from PS or at least thats what my cornsnake forum says but I love this one they take great care of there animals) I was holding Wolowitz(his/her name) and I was looking at the tail and there is umm im not sure how to explain this. something sticking out of the side. looks kind of like a claw or something from a mouse foot.(or thats what I think but im sure im waaay off.) if I touch it he gets a little jumpy other than that I dont think it bothers him. Eats great. I just fed him yesterday so it will be a day or two before I can post pics of it. and that will be hard because I can only use my ipod camera.

Where on the tail.... Could it be his/her spurs....

Re: help please.
I thought this same exact thing when I first saw the anal spurs on my bp years ago, and thought, 'Oh no! He didn't fully digest it and now its poking out of him!"
They are a normal part of bp's anatomy, the ancient remains of legs, retained for prehensile mating purposes (not sure how much bp's utilize them in mating, but other species do).
Don't freak out! You're just getting to know your snake that much more :]

Thank you!!
Im realllly hoping thats what it is i still want to post a pic tho to be fulllly sure. another question. his last meal took him 20 min to eat(not count the strike and coil just the swallowing) does that mean the mouse was to big. I recorded the strike and some of the swallowing so I can post a vid later if that will help tell. Thank you for your help and please look over my noobiness!!

Some bp's take longer to eat than others....Just try to keep the width of the food the same width of the largest part of the snake and you will be fine....

I'm guessing that you mean the spurs. If it is then don't worry. Everyone who's seen my snakes have said the very same thing. Welcome to ball pythons. We'd love to see pictures of him

If they are on either side of the vent, it's his/her spurs. Spurs are the remnants of what used to be their legs that they lost during evolution

Regarding the 20 minute thing, BP's seem to take a few attempts to learn the best way to eat. Keep in mind, they're trying to figure out how to get this thing down their mouth with letting it "get away" and at the same time with no hands.
They get the hang of it after a while and future eatings should go quicker.
