sometimes its just too much...
"People die of common sense. One lost moment at a time."
i just heard this and i thought i'd share. i have a quote in my signature. "you only regret the risks in life you DON'T take." i have a few regrets so far in life and they are all of me sitting on the sidelines too afraid to take a chance to fall flat on my face. life is too short. do waste it all on "common sense".
my sister's house burnt to the ground last night. everyone is safe. they got all the pets out too. but i cant help but think what if the worst would have happened... my sister, her family. gone. just like that.
what have i left unsaid? all of the arguments that seemed so important once upon a time...
i know im rambling and bouncing from thought to thought. sorry. just not myself today. my snakes and bp.net have been my distraction. well more of a place i can just be my weird self and not have to explain.
i could go on and on and on....blah blah blah. thanks for letting me get it off my chest

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister but very glad everyone is ok! It's still way too stressful with something like that though.

Sorry to hear about your sisters house. Glad to hear that they are all OK. My dad use to say that also when I was a kid "Life is to Short". Never really knew what he meant by it. I do now.

I'm glad to hear they are all okay, and I can imagine that would be very stressful, but I'm sure everyone on here would me more than willing to help if you need to talk ever.

I'm so sorry your family had to go through that. In my line of work I see this quite often, you just have to be grateful that everyone got out and is safe. One of the best "life quotes" I've heard while going through a tough time is "there is no sense in worrying about things that you cannot control". Whatever it may be, it can always apply.

Re: sometimes its just too much...
it seems like it only takes some kind of tragedy to wake us up huh? especially when it happens to someone we know and love or close to home.
i HATE that.
sorry for hijacking the thread here
but that is my biggest heart-breaker currently. i had a grandma and an aunt pass away within 3 months of each other some years ago and was not told about them for months hence was not able to go to their funerals and say my last goodbyes. in fact i had talked to my aunt on the phone days before she passed away and i STILL had not said what i needed to say, knowing that she was on her death bed. i was just too afraid to remind her. like "hey, um, since your about to die, i just wanted you to know..."
i just couldnt do it. and because of that i was overwhelmed by grief and that damn question haunting me 24/7 for months after hearing of her passing. i started drinking a bit more heavily just to drown out that question and the overwhelming feeling of sorrow i was walking around with. oh not to mention i was smoking at the time and my family couldn't remind me enough how i was gonna end up like my aunt if i didnt quit. she died of lung cancer after having smoked all her life.
i mean really! i'm already reeling with grief & they wanna hit me with THAT every time they see me!
anyways, drawing my hijacking to a close here, sorry, i was able to seek out therapy and quit smoking (in my aunt's honor...i kinda felt like i owed it to her. strange huh?) and quit drinking as well.
so yeah communication is very important and i learned that one the hard way.
ok i'm done. i'm sorry again for hijacking the thread with my stuff.

update:
just a quick update.
the damage to the neighbor's house has been repaired. my sisters house was a total loss though. they couldnt salvage anything at all. but every one seems to be in good spirits. so thats good i guess.

wow,
very sorry to hear about your sisters home. Glad everyone is alright. (and now in good spirits)
Stuff like this isnt easy to go through.
your wondering this now, and I can see why. I think its time to embrace everything about life and family. "Lifes to short" "you dont know what you have til its gone" speak to me here,
my advice, be strong for everyone. and dont take your family-or anyone for that matter- for granted. because you never know when the last time you see them will be.
-Ive been through stuff like this myself. and Ive come to realize these things.
take care of yourself and your family, if you need anything dont hesitate to let someone know.
