Is feeding rodents kept on cedar detrimental to bp's?

    Hi everyone

The two lfs' near me keep their rats on cedar and i wanted to find out if feeding them to my ball python would be detrimental to his health in anyway.

    Thank you

From what I know, the problem about cedar is the fumes they produce, which lead to respiratory problems. Although this can affect both snakes and rodents, I should not think that it is some sort of toxin which would remain in the mouse and thus affect your BP when it eats - it would just harm the rodent's respiratory function when INHALED. The BP's wont be exposed to the fumes. So I don't think that it would be detrimental to your BP in that way.

However, you do want to take note that since cedar gives rodents such health problems, the quality of these feeders would not be the best, and this, in the long run, could have impacts on your snake. It would be best if you are able to obtain healthier specimens, whether bought live, or raised on your own, or even frozen.

ASFs are fine on cedar, just FYI. I know from experience that most rats will die from being exposed to it, not sure about mice.
