    AP rack???

I want to get an AP economy rack, but i dont heat my room. I was not shure the size of the heat tape. I really want this b/c of their prices and i was wondering if it would get up in the 90's when the room temp is like 65-75. Can anyone answer these or give your opinion? thanks!!

I've heard people buy the insulation styrofoam board at home improvement stores and attach it to the back and sides to hold in heat. But I think it's still cheaper to build one if you have any skill.

The basic design of the economy model is closer to the top of the line freedom breeder models than to most other rack systems IMO. I think most breeders that have them heat the room as well.

    Re: AP rack???

The main purpose of heat tape is to make your hot spot. It will not raise ambient temps from 65deg to an acceptable level (would need at least ten degrees), especially on an open-sided rack like the AP Economy-line racks, without making the hot spot dangerous for your snakes. If you aren't going to heat the room, make sure you buy/build an enclosed rack so it can retain as much heat as possible.

I have one from AP. It is a 6 shelf 32 qt large and 15 qt small rack. I keep in in my bed room and stays about 70 degrees at all times. I have a thermostat on it and int he day time i have it 92 degrees in the hot side and 80 degrees in the cool side. At night I have it at 90 degrees on the hot side and 75 in the cool side. The snakes seem to like it. with humidity about 55 at all times.
