Help! I think I have mites!
Okay so today when I took Dante out of his tank to move him to our new house I noticed about four little reddish-black bugs up by his head and on his neck. I quickly brushed them off, and began looking for more and found one more crawling on his side. I brushed it off too, then instantly put Dante in a warm bath. I don't know for sure if they were mites or not, I'm sorry I didn't get any pictures, I was just trying to get them off. I instantly dumped out the substrate (T-Rex Sani-Chips) and removed all the fake plants, hides, and water bowl, then took everything to our new house. I've washed down the tank with super hot water and anti-bactireal soap after I left if filled to the top with super hot water till the water cooled down. I also washed down the water bowl, plants, and hides with super hot soapy water and left everything (tank included) to air dry.
Is there anything else I should do, or was this not right? I've never thought I'd get mites and now I'm scared because I've heard they're impossible to get rid of. So if anyone knows anything else please let me know asap. My vet is about an hour and a half away and almost always booked because he's the only one in a four hour driving radius. If I should take Dante I will though.

Re: Help! I think I have mites!
I recommend getting some Provent-A-Mite. It's very effective and one can will last awhile. One treatment will last up to 30 days, but for an active infestation, it's good to treat again 15 days after the initial treatment. You can order it here:

I'd keep him on paper towel for the interim.
They're not impossible to get rid of. Symy had mites 3 months after I got her. You probably did enough in your tank. I prefer rubbing alcohol to soap simply because there is no residue, and alcohol will provide you with an instant kill. If you ever see more mites on Dante, try using a cotton ball with mineral oil on it. Rub the cotton ball along the areas where you see the mites. After applying the oil give Dante a bath. There is also a possibility that you did not have parasitic mites. One big symptom of bad mites is anxiety and stress. If Dante was constantly roaming around the cage scratching itself, or taking long dips into his water dish, then you'd know they were parasitic mites. I

It's hard to tell about the stress because he's in shed right now. I suspect he'll get rid of his old skin in a day or two. I did however find some more mites they're under his mouth, and there are a few along his belly, but they're inbetween the scales and I don't know how to get them out. There are about six all together that I can see.

For topical treatment to get the mites off the snake itself (provent-a-mite is not for topical use) the mineral oil on a cotton ball rubbed on the mites works but mineral oil causes scales to flake off too. Run to the pet store and pick up a spray bottle of topical mite treatment which can be sprayed directly on the snake.
For long-term permanent treatment get the P.A.M. (provent-a-mite).
Treat enclosure as per directions. Spray a thin line around the table or floor where the enclosure sits.
Vacuum and sweep your entire house and furniture very well to be sure there aren't any lurking.
Once you are rid of them, a partial enclosure/area treatment with the P.A.M. Every 4-6 weeks or so will ensure you never get them again.

Re: Help! I think I have mites!
Okay so I got some P.A.M from a girl from my herp group so I wouldn't have to wait for it to come in the mail, and I treated my snake with benadine/water solution to drown the mites and sanitize the bites. He already seems to be feeling a little better, and I hope this will take care of it for good. Thank you so much to everyone for you help on this!
