I have recently gotten a ball and I think she may have multiple eye caps..

ok, so I know this is going to sound terrible, I am new to snakes. Abby is my first ball python. I got her from someone that needed to get rid of her.. so I offered her a good home. I have done LOTS of research, but to be honest I still have lots of questions.

so long story short, when I picked her up they told me she had not eaten in 6 weeks, I got her home set up in a new tank and all and fed her the following day. She ate great, 2 small live mice with no problems. and we are now a week later she has eaten her weekly one medium mouse. so no problems with eating yay!

She is active, stays out of her hide about half the time, and is great with being handled all within her first week!

I took her into the pet store with me, and let their reptile man take a look at her, he told me she has really bad eye caps and I feel awful bc I cant tell . I have been moisurizing her eyes a few times a day since then, and I have used mineral oil as well.. i dont see any difference. I honestly dont know how bad they are or if they are getting ny better, I can post pics if anyone has any insight I could greatly appreciate it.

    TY!!!

Hi Tiffany....welcome to BP.net! I hope we're able to help! Sounds to me like you're off to a great start and your snake has a very good home.

Do you think you could get some clear, close-up pictures of her eyes? (or just one eye, if they both look the same) Can you describe what they look like? There are a lot of different issues that can be going on with the eyes, and stuck caps is just one of them. If it's not really that bad, it's usually just best to leave them be and see if they slough off with the next shed. If it's not eyecaps at all, then you risk doing serious damage to the eyes by constantly messing with them trying to pull off caps that aren't there. If it's multiple stuck eyecaps that won't come off with any simple home remedies, then you may need an experienced herp vet (or experienced breeder) to help you with them.

Pictures and/or more info would help us to help direct you in a more specific direction.

Re: I have recently gotten a ball and I think she may have multiple eye caps..

I split this out of the old eye-cap thread and made it it's own new thread. It'll get the attention it deserves this way, and won't cause any confusion with people responding to the OP of the original thread.

Pictures would for sure help. As JLC said, you need to make sure that they actually are eye caps to avoid potentially doing damage to the eye if they aren't.
