Florida and Lousiana aren't the only states with big gators!

We in Texas have ‘em too! This was from a trip last month to Brazos Bend State Park located South of Sugarland and Katy Texas, Southwest of Houston, TX. The park boasts a population of about 350 gators (excluding juvies). A skull was found in the park of what was estimated to be a 16 footer which would have been a state record. We saw one 10-12 footer on the trip plus a bunch in the 8 foot range - nearly 40 gators total over a 2 day trip. Enough rambling, here's the pics:
    Softshell turtle:

    Smallest gator of the trip:

Wife and son walked right past this guy and didn't even notice!

    Cool bird of some kind:

I think this is a nest but never seen one. Gator can be seen to the left. Maybe some of you Florida guys can confirm?

Big bull frog on the way to the observatory Saturday night:

    Dug this sign:

    Another turtle:

A tarantula at the nature center:

My son getting acquainted with a baby gator:

The largest pygmy rattler I've ever seen:

Son petting a Mexican milk snake:

Next two shots are the largest gator of the trip and largest I've ever seen. We estimate this big boy at 10-12 feet but unfortunately there's no point of reference and I couldn't get a volunteer to go lay next to him

    More birds:

Thanks! Where in Houston are you located? I would recommend Spring or Fall. Starting in May it ain't fun - tons of mosquitoes and other flying critters, hot and VERY humid. But March was perfect weather!
