help with hydrofarm
Hi
I hooked up my hydrofarm I stuck the probe to the UTH. It is reading 124.4m I set the hydrofarm to 95 degrees. Will it now shut off the UTH until it reaches below 95 degrees.

Re: help with hydrofarm
It would depend on what reptile you're keeping. 90 would be better for Ball Pythons. But that 90 degree reading should be registered inside the tub that you're keeping the ball python. So in order to get 90 degrees in your tub, you will propbably have to set the thermostat a little higher. Buying a digital thermometer comes in handy at this point.
Good Luck!

Keep in mind that the probe of the hydrofarm is not very accurate it can be (according to the specs) 2 degrees higher of where you set it or two degrees lower than where you set it. I am guessing that it has a one degree set point (? anybody know for sure?) where one the temp is one degree where it is set for it will set to off or on. So that means the unit can be as much as 3 degrees off of true high or low. I'd recommend that you keep that in mind when setting the unit, and try to set it where 3 high isn't a problem and 3 low isn't either. I'd say no higher than 91º (94-88ºF possible range)

I have a digital thermometer two in my cage one for hot dise one for cool. I set it at about 92 degrees. I did not know they were not reliable thermostats they came reccommended oh well. I need to gett a ranco at some point. I also have a finnex for my titanium heater it has a sensor maybe I could use that. I am not going to stress to much about a degree or two. I also have to drive to new hampshire for a temp gun this weekend unless anyone knows is they sell a good one at lowes or home deptot.

I think you will find all of the above (all cheap digital thermometers and IR guns, all IR guns are about the same +/-2ºF) . Just plan for the deviation it is very hard to find accurate on a budget.
I have not checked rancos but Johnsons are the same too. I'd be surprised if rancos were different they simply do not need to be for the intended purpose. Herpstat, Helix, VEs and Ecozone all are about +/-1ºF just keep in mind that the temps can be higher or lower than you expect and plan that when you set the temperature. I'd say 92 is a touch high, personally I'd go no higher than 91º

I am planning on stacking the cages at soem point so I ill look into more expensive unts. My tanks are all in seperate areas. $150+ is not bad but buying one for each cage could hurt a little I wil reset it to 91 degrees. I am still learning about all the equiptment out there.
