Is it possible my girl already ovulated?!?

    I know, I know...not another ovulation question!

    But...

I have never bred ball pythons before, and then about a month and a half ago after I weighed my female I thought -- why not? She is big enough now!

So, she has locked with my spider three times since March 1. It would have been four times, but when I put them toghether last weekend there was no interest between the two.

A couple of days ago she looked huge, and had the sucked in tail. I thought it might be an ovulation, but I didn't want to get my hopes up. Now today I checked on her, and unless it is my imagination, she looks smaller. And now she has a pink belly, so I know she is going into shed.

Could it be in fact that this is a post-ovulation shed? It seems like this all went very fast. Only a month and a half ago I started cooling them down, and she had only been paired with a male a little over a month ago.

    Thoughts?

(And yes -- I do have an incuabator all ready!!!)

it is possible if you timed it right.

get the incubator up and running and hopefully 27 days after shed you may get eggs. if you dont then keep incubating and introducing the pair to each other.
is she still eating? if so then she didnt ovulate.....keep breeding till you get eggs.

They start to cycle when they want to, not just when you decide to cool and breed. The best thing to do is count down 30 days after her next shed and be ready for eggs. Better safe than sorry.

I have girls lay in January all the way untill October and they are all in the same exact conditions so that just goes to show you they dont read the breeding manual, lol

I prefer to watch my girls more closely that the calendar

    Timing doesn't sound quite right

I have yet to see one go into shed immediately after ovulating, mine seem to take most of 2 weeks before they start their prelay shed.

Thanks...I wasn't sure what the exact timeline was. I guess it is probably just wishful thinking on my part

Probably just a coincidence that she is going into shed, but I could swear that she looked much smaller yesterday than she did the day before.

    Thanks everyone!

Yeah it took my girl about two weeks from her ov to prelay shed as well.

But like others said, I would make sure you are ready for eggs in about a month just in case. It's probably her pre-ov shed, but just to be on the safe side, make sure you are prepared!
