Mites

In December I talked a petsore into giving me a hatchling BP that wasnt eating (or being cared for properly). Theres a thread here somewhere. Shes doing well, super sweet, but still has the mites that came with her.

Heres the regimin Ive used once a week. My adult BP 20 ft away is fine.

I soak her for 45 - an hour in water up to her nose.
I submerge her wood hides in a seperate place for an hour
Then I bake her hides at 300* for 30 - 40 minutes
I scrub her plastic enclosure and water bowl after soaking them in water / bleach

I put new paper in the enclosure
Spray her down with mite off

then wait. I see less and less and they are smaller and smaller but persistent. What else can I do?

Nix is the best thing you can do mix one bottle with one gallon of distilled water then put into a spray bottle kills mites, and eggs. All the breeders here use Nix works great.

During the soak you can throw in a blip of dawn dish soap to break the surface tension in the water.

Also.. I have been told that using baby mineral oil directly on the snake can do wonders with killing those mites. You cover the snake (obviously not eyes+nose) then run them through your fingers to get off the excess.

It doesn't react like olive oil (another treatment for DURING a soak) which can potentially cook your BP if you don't wash it off. You do not need to wash off mineral oil. :]

But.. all that aside... I use PAM and reptile relief. <3 lol

The mites aren't on the snake or in the enclosure from what it sounds like. They crawl out and lay eggs outside then come back to infest the snake all over again. You need to start treating the area around where the snake is being kept. I prefer reptile relief myself but PAM works too. Not a fan of the NIX thing at all but if your treating the area it would work as well. It may take several treatments over the course of 45 days to finally get rid of them for good.

The area around? Its concrete tiles and not much else, and they have a big climb out and back into the enclosure. Ill give it a try.

I second this method. It worked amazing for my ball. Just a couple treatments and I am still mite free after 5 weeks. Best thing is that it cost little and you get a ton of extra for if you get more in the future. I followed this video, he does a great job and it was very helpful to me.
