    Price question

I have a definite plan in action and I am ready to pull the funds together for my next purchase. Here is what I want:

    0.1 butter
    0.1 black pastel het ghost
    1.0 ghost

I am going to wait for the 2011 hatches as I think I will have a lot more choices (there does not seem to be much out there right now. How much do you think I should expect to pay for such a group? I will be looking at quality animals but not horribly over priced animals (compared to the rest of the market) from big namers (you know who I mean).

    Re: Price question

Honestly? I don't know of many morphs that are horribly overpriced these days from ANY breeder.

I don't look at the price tag, I look at the animal. If Mr. Small Time Breeder has the animal that I want, I buy from him - if Kevin McCurley has what I want, I buy from him.

It can take me months and up to a year to find the animal that perfectly represents what I'm looking for.

The key was "compared to the rest of the market". I know the prices of Bps have gone down A LOT. So have the prices of houses, it is a market and right now it is buyers which is why some of us are buying future breeders and homes NOW to make a bit of profit later on. There are some bigger breeders who are holding on to higher prices and there are people paying those prices just to say I got a xxxx line animal. I have seen animals that are not top notch come out of these facilities. But hey, to each their own. I only mentioned it in my post so I would avoid comments that referred to the gap in prices. Sure you can pay $325 for a xxxx line male pastel. But he is just as likely to brown out as a small time breeder $125 pastel. I also understand that poor quality animals are cheapest. I am not looking for cheapest just not looking for mediocre with world famous name. Nuff said.

As far as prices go, it's a matter of waiting to see how much they are. Some morphs drop prices a little faster. Doms with recessive genes don't seem to get as cheap as "plain" dominant morphs from year to year, but it also depends on how popular the recessive gene is. I'm pretty sure you could end up paying about 20% less for the 2011 hatches compared to this year's hatch, but it also depends if you get all the animals from the same person. Easier to ask for a discount for multiple purchases. I don't feel like big name breeders overcharge, they just set the prices that smaller breeders tend to base their own prices off of.

I agree with Robin, if i want a snake and I buy it without starving for the month I will buy it. I wanted a spider for a very long time but held out for a male with some paradox markings from Rick Schlosser because I wasn't super thrilled by the animals being offered until I found him. VERY pleased with the purchase. Same with my pied girl. I was wanting a younger snake and a good eater with medium or low white and got a fantastic snake from John Vandegrift. I tend to fall in love with the snake as well as the seller's AMAZING reputation rather than the price tag. I can work around prices, for the most part.

I wish i could help, but it's tough to predict next year's market, all i can say is look up the prices for what you want, and they should be cheaper...
    1.0 Het Piebald (Lycaeus)
    1.0 Spider (V "Fawkes")
    0.1 Piebald (Fia)
0.2 Pastel (Chalcomede & Daeneyrs "Dany")
    0.1 orangebelly (Secha "Veruca Salt")

    R.I.P my babies
    Texas luecistic ratsnake (Ripley) 0.1
    Ball Python (Ariadne) 0.1
    Ball Python (Montreal) 1.0

From looking at for sale ads on KS 2010 animals less than 400g are about

    1.0 Ghost - $100-$200
    0.1 Lesser - $400 - $450
0.1 Black pastel het ghost - have not seen one for sale but black pastel females for like $300 and female het ghost for around $100 so I am tagging it around $400

    So somewhere between $900 - $1050 for 2010 animals.

I agree, I would love to get them from the same person!! It would make my qt much easier. What would be peak month to start seriously looking? August, September?

im sorry but thats where you are wrong, you have alot to learn still.

but to give you a range.

    1.0 Ghost - $100-$400
    0.1 Lesser - $250 - $500
0.1 Black pastel het hypo - 2 gene snake....600+ (big range possibility here)

snake prices just don't add together as you add genes. When breeding a black pastel to a hypo, only half statistically are black pastel het hypos. so the price will reflect that. also supply and demand plays a factor obviously.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the price, keep in mind exceptional examples of morphs are worth a more.

You will have that BP for a very long time so don't be in a big rush to purchase...get what you want.

I would say that if you find a breeder with all the animals you want you MIGHT be able to get a package deal for about 1200 bucks. At that price you should get average or a little better than average examples of each morph. If you buy from seperate breeders expect to pay a little more. I will once again say what everyone else has told you. Don't buy a certain gene to to say you have it. If it's a low quality lesser it's probably going to produce lower quality lessers and combos.

I'd think you could get decent examples of the snakes you've chosen for ~ $1k total.

    Male hypo ~ $150-$200
    Female Lesser ~ $300-$400
Female BP het hypo ~ $400-$500

For sure if you get them all at one time from the same breeder...
