Nice pictures and I agree your white balance is a little off but not bad. The best way to really see your work is having a quality screen and making sure your screen is color calibrated.
If you decide to ever get a a new screen and want the best bang for your buck check out this on and it comes with a color calibrater!!

Other than the white balance you should not have to adjust the saturation or contrast etc.

I thought so too until I tried it with flash on that 2nd attempt. I would have gotten one straight on but he wasn't really in to the photo shoot

The first picture is the only one that needs fixing really. It's too dark. The axanthic close up is PERFECT! The macro lens, like stated before, is for those kind of pictures. Just keep playing with it, you'll get it!
