    unexpected clutch......

Well, one of my girls had gone off feed. I had not dropped my temps or anything. Infact i was taking the year off completely this year. Due to new job and just not enough rack space for hatchlings.

Anywho, she went off food. I wanted to keep her eating. I threw a male in there with her to hopefully trigger her feeding responce again. This is actually later than she'd normally drop and develope follicles so I didn't think anything of it. I also didn't feel any follicles in her at all at the time.

I was going to use her next year for when my BEL male was up to size. She's a 4000gram normal female so i figured she'd throw a nice large clutch for me by next years breeding season with the BEL. And that'd be nice to have a large clutch since the BEL was made from a mojave x lesser pairing.

Anyhow, i threw my Ghost male with her. Shes not het or anything. Just trying to get her to eat again. I only paired them up once. Didn't drop temps at all or anything. So didn't think of it. Pulled them apart.

She started eating again.....A LOT. I said, oh crap!! I knew exactly what was going on as I've bred this girl the last 5 years in a row so i've gotten to know her cycles and how she acts.

Next thing i know, i get a call on the way back from my trip. SHE LAID 11 GOOD EGGS!!! So, i'm going to have 11 wonderful 100% het ghost babies. I'm kinda hoping she's het ghost by some miracle. That'd make it even more worth it. Anyhow if not I got some nice 100% het females to raise up for future project. Dont know what I'll do with the rest. Oh well just thought i'd share the surprise.

By the way, 1st year she gave me 6 eggs and a dud, 2nd year she gave me 7 good eggs, 3rd year she gave me 7 good eggs again, 4th year she gave me 8 good eggs, and this year she just gave me 11 good perfect healthy eggs that i can see and count their might be a smaller one on the bottom but didn't want to mess em up the way they were laid but I counted 11 when i got back home. So well see when May 22nd (day 55) comes. Should at least be pipping by then.

Anyhow, Happy rest of the season to everyone else!!! If i can get a camera Ill post pics up of mom, dad, and the eggs....

    Later, Damen

good luck. yea i got 14 girls ready to go for next year. some just came up to size others i just wanted to put the size on. so next years going to be awesome. cant wait and then in a few years i can make endless amount of morphs...

I have things to make super stripes, ivorys, spider ivorys, spinner blasts, killer blasts, super blasts (i think that's the super pastel spider pinstripe), killer bees, queen bees, a bumble bee butter enchi, etc..etc...countless possibilities. After i get a lot of the combo morphs i want I'm going to start working everything into my super stripe projects. That's the only morphs i really wanna do are the super stripes.

I just want to get the other morphs i want and start turning them into yellow bellys.....so a lot of fun coming up in the years to come.

Anyhow good luck with your three clutches. It's fun aint it? i remember my first season. I almost fainted when i opened the tub actually on the same female and got my first clutch of eggs i thought it was NEVER going to happen. Aprils right around the corner though, if the snake gods smile upon you (they're going to) you'll have three healthy clutches of eggs. cant wait for my babies to come out

Yeah, you only have a couple months to wait, though! I have at least a couple years lol I have no patience.

neither did i. lol. that's why i bought eight breeder girls my first year all normals. i started with the basics. after that i bought baby morphs and now their raised up.. so next year should be good. next years going to be better but still slow. should have bumble bees, mojaves, lessers, mojave spiders, lesser spiders, enchis (if he ever starts eating again), yellow bellys, yellow belly spiders, spiders, pastels, and normals of course so. we'll see how it goes.

I honestly wish i was patient. if i knew then what i know now, i'd have an awesome collection right now. it's better to wait and watch the little ones grow up and when you produce your first clutch of eggs its more satisfying than like say the way i did it.

like in the last 5 years i've only been able to produce pastels and normals. that's it. this clutch (even though they're just going to be het and not a visable phenotype), its going to be the first time i produced something different than just normals and pastels. so now i losted a girl to breed for next year since im going to give her the year off. i might have to go pick up a few more normal girls. nothing wrong with normals girls though. just gotta put something good to em.

just hang in their though. youll get there. i'm still waiting for my butter female, bumble bee female, lemon blast female, my pastel female, and my yellow belly female to raise up. i still have three years left on them at least most of those girls haven't even hit the 400 gram mark yet and they're 5 months old alrighty.

bumble bee girls 290 grams, the lemon blast is 380, the butters 375. so theyre getting there but still got a while to go yet. can't wait for them to get big though. Ill be able to do countless morphs then. oh and my pastel spector male. he's only 500 grams. i want my males usually around 2 years and around 800-1000grams before i breed them.

alrighty good luck with everything. thanks for all the awesome comments.

    Later,
    Damen
