    Is there a better way?

So, I've thought it out and if my breeding plans some how go perfect , I'll have a 1/16 chance at an axanthic emperor pin. This is if I breed my axanthic to a pinstripe and my pastel lesser, get a girl and a boy, one pinstripe het axanthic (50% chance) and one pastel lesser het axanthic (25% chance) and then breed them together.

However, if I were to have both the pastel lesser het axanthic and the pinstripe het axanthic both be females and breed them back to my axanthic male, would that better my chances? I mean, I'm thinking it would take another generation... The chances of getting a pastel lesser axanthic would be 12.5% and the chances of getting an axanthic pinstripe would be 25%.

Oh, and also if you breed two het axanthics together, if the trait isn't visual is there still a chance the babies are het for axanthic? Is that like a 66% chance or does it have to be visual?

Oh, correct me if I'm wrong with any of these percentages please. >w<

If you breed two hets together, you have a 1/4 chance to get that visual recessive morph and rest will be visually wild type looking. But 2/3 of these wild type looking animals could carry the recessive gene, thus 66% het is right.

    off on your odds

you can use that calculator to figure out everything you need to know as far as odds go, you are correct though doing it the 2nd way will take another generation, but will increase your odds of your end goal. and you are correct about the %'s, but just to clarify

Het x Het = 1/2/1 ratio of visual(homozygous)/het/normal, you can't tell the difference between the normal and hets so your left with 2/1 ratio or 66% of them being het

    Het x Normal = 1/1 ratio or 50%

@OhhWatALoser, Oh, yuck. I wish I was right. So, do you think that I should do the second way? Well, I guess I could do it either way. It really depends on the genders of the babies. x___x Chance is so mean.

I think that would be something to think about after you see what pops out of your first clutch, its nice to have plans but they will change most likely when you see what did or did not pop out.

Oh, I have another question. Not sure if I should ask here or the breeding forum. How do you get papers to prove something is a non-visual het? Do you make them yourself by documenting or what? o__o

yup, basically take a picture of the snake and sign it, then year down the road when the person you sold the snake to is reselling it, they can show the buyer that you said it is a het and show a picture to match up the snake.

papers are only as good as the person selling.

Thanks, I always see something about papers and how if you don't have them some people won't pay the price for the het. What do the papers look like? I've never seen them before. They don't have multiple pictures of the mom and the dad and what not?
