    Giving a snake a room...

So, I have a weird question. Would you ever give a snake an empty bedroom (set up like a snake habitat) as opposed to having a large built enclosure? Though it will be far in the future before I get any giant (I'm not one to jump in unprepared) I can't help but think about the day I can finally get one. My thought process went like this "We could put the enclosure in the spare room, we don't use it for anything....hey, I wonder..." and then I came straight here. :-P

Feel free to tell me if I'm an idiot, I won't be offended. My girl tells me that every time I come up with what I feel is a brilliant, eccentric idea.

As long as it's super easy to clean, yes.

Re: Giving a snake a room...

A few years back i helped convert a friends spare bedroom into a snakes enclosure.. although it didnt have any big boids in it only a group of 1.4.0 Green Tree Pythons & a forest worth of plants & trees. Truth be told i thought it was amazing once it was finished but the effect it had on the walls from the humidity ect ment it had to be taken down after the first 6months of it being up.. so if you do go through with it make sure you water seal everything! best of luck

Re: Giving a snake a room...

i ha a friend about 15 years ago that had a huge femle retic (24') that the had given the spare bedroom to. it seemed to worked well for him at the time. but i haven't spooken to him in years so i really can't say how well it worked for him in the long term. the one problem i noticed is the room had your typical wood door so when you entered the room you were going in blind and had no way of noing where the snake was or what mood it was in.

Re: Giving a snake a room...

i think its a fantastic idea, and i fully intended to do it with my male tiger.. but he turned out to be a lazy bum and even as a young snake he was more interested in just laying around and not useing branches and perches so i gave him a decent sized cage with a nice swimming hole and a large basking spot.

i am gonna build an enclosure for a argu or blackthroat monitor when i have the space and funds, i think a nice sized room with a big glass door would just be byond cool plus theres the fact that they would make a better use of the space and really enjoy it more opposed to the large boid

just make sure u plan it out, a solution to the humidity problem (im assuming your owning the house your doing this to) u could drylok the walls which would work, and a tip.. if you want it a certain color most smaller places will if u try lowes or homedepot tell them to double the coloring and it will work out nice with the drylok

Mold would be my biggest concern.
