I never said I new it all, I do believe I stated that I still ask questions, I don't know it all but I do know that I have never been questioned about my husbandry questions. The remark was made to be an educational point of view, letting this person know that there are precautions you have to take before acquiring a large snake any large snake. I do believe that if I didn't know what I was doing or it was at least in question then I wouldn't be asked by the local humane society as well as police and rescue, or a rescue group here in Colorado to take charge of these animals and give them a home.
I respect all your answers and I do agree if something is being done that will get you hurt or killed then fine do what you think is right, but do not let the rest of us look bad. Once again the statement wasn't made to look like I'm an idiot, but made to make a point. That these snakes are not for everyone. I have tons of respect for these animals, and its one reason why I didn't let her get put down. I took her in and i have been working with her, to make a point that over time they can be worked with and not really trained or trusted, but allowed to live out a life that they were brought into by humans, in captivity not in the wild. SHe is a large snake, she is related to fluffy and she is gorgeous but i don't trust her completely, Hell I know ppl who I don't trust completely should we put them down also. No, I know I know human being are humans, What ever that means. I also realize that she could get a hold of me and there is nothing i could do about. I don't take the gun with me to just have it is there for protection.... A just in case. Same as the listerine, my tongs, hook, and poke stick, Her built in hide into the tank with a sliding glass door, as well as ppl I ask to come help. I have no children, and when i use her in educational shows she, is in a reinforced dog kennel that is locked and pad locked for their as well as her safety.
Once again, I don't know it all, But I hate being insulted and more or less being called stupid, and insulted saying i don't know what I'm doing. I will ask questions when i need to. I will do my part to make sure none of us look stupid or bad owners. I have more retics and brumes and treat them all the same, I still have the gun with me its, a precaution, maybe a way to feel moor comfortable, But i will be damned if I will be told that I have a large snake to just carry a gun, an excuse to have a gun. I live in the middle of no where in colorado. I can cary a gun for that reason, 9 years in the army, I carried a gun, I was in bosnia, kosovo, afghanistan and Iraq, Where I was injured. That there is reason enough for me to carry a gun, but I don't I have owned this gun and no others for 10 years It has ben shot twice, both times in afghanistan.
Please have a little more respect, for everyone on here and if your point of vie insults some one then keep your mouth shut. I am deeply offended by this and think that the subject is now dead.
To the original starter of this thread, as stated above do your research, do you homework, be trained by someone who owns a large snake. then decide if its what you want. If interested in the retics or burms but don't want a huge one, then go with the dwarf versions of either of these. there are super dwarf retics also, same snake, same temp. same attitude, same feeding frenzy, Less size, a smaller package......Good luck to you and I hope it all works out, and you find what you are looking for as well as are well versed in it before you set out on the adventure.
To everyone else, good luck to you as well, and I hope i didn't offend anyone here. I wasn't trying to do that, but I was trying to make a point that before you add your 2 cents read posting above yours, then put your part in
