If his eyes just turned blue last night, he's actually more in the beginning of the shed cycle. Over the next couple of days his eyes will clear up again, but his skin will still look dull. Then a few days after that he should shed. You should keep the humidity around 70% during this entire process.
A lot of times they will drink after eating just to "wash it down" so to speak haha But since it was a several hours after eating, I would say he probably didn't feel comfortable or secure enough to drink until you put him back into his enclosure. I suppose it could have something to do with shedding too, since he could have felt that he needed more fluid to help separate the two layers of skin.
The only thing I'm concerned about is that you left him with a water dish but no heat source overnight?? Since you're down in Louisiana I'm sure it was warm enough, but it's always a good idea to provide them with some sort of heat, even if it's just a hand warmer heat pack stuffed in a sock.
