Reading temps on a rack
Ok so I've had my home made rack for a while and I've have my herpstat set up the way I think it works best. But I want to know where you guys that have racks, place your probes for consistent readings. So feel free to chime in and let me know where you guys place them.

Do you stack a tub over it?
btw I noticed your username is MiamiRoyalPythons... Are you a breeder from there? I'm from there.

My rack is a tight fit so I place the probe under the flexwatt there is no way for the tub to run over it. I actually use two probes one on the second from the top and one on the second from the bottom. I get better more constant temps that way.

Usually there is a small space between tubs as most of them taper inwards towards the bottom, so no, the tubs do not go over the probe. It's a good idea to tape the probe to the flexwatt with some aluminum tape or electrical tape, and I've even used scotch tape lol. And yes I am a born, bred, and raised Miamian

I'm making the switch from tanks to a rack/tub setup. Thanks for posting the question and in turn garnering the responses, MiamiRoyal. That issue hadn't come up in my build but would have at some point...thanks for the info, guys!

with my rack I found the flexwatt to be quite different from the edge to middle. I was going to place the probe on the side but the 7º edge difference stopped me. Just something to check, I got some odd flexwatt (Caliorique) from a massive buyer I bought the end of a roll, I don't know if mine is odd that way or not.

This thread has been dead but hopefull someone will answer so I don't need to start another.
Ok so you guys have tolds me to put the probe on a middle rack in the middle of the heat tape, but won't the space between the tape and where the BP sits, allow for heat to be lost. How do you fix that? Should I set the thermostat a few degrees higher or what?
