Bp stopped using hides.....
Lately he has been laying on top of his hides instead of going in them - should I just remove the hides.
Any advice on this. This bp is 6 years old.
Thanks

What are the temps like? double check temps inside the hides.

Hot side 90 and the cool side 79. When I just went to check the temps he was currently in his cool side hide. He just seems to not be in them as much as he used to.

Re: Bp stopped using hides.....
Everything seems fine, so he's probably just not into hiding as much now, you never know.

Stop worrying about him. He knows what he's doing, just make sure the temps are good.

Lol- I know I tend to worry too much. I will leave everything alone and let him lay where he pleases.
Thanks everyone for putting my mind at ease

Re: Bp stopped using hides.....
My normal male no longer uses his hides. He hides behind his water bowl and I have checked his temps. This snake still eats and acts normal so I really don't think it is anything to be concerned about.

Is he out during the late morning and early afternoon? They do sometimes 'hunt' during the morning and early evening in the last light of the day that is kinda normal. Is he wandering and seeking a way out or just chill'n on the hides?
I have always felt that a snake should be out here and there and not hiding all the time. But the flip side is that they should not be out all the time either. The attitude of the snake will tell you a lot, the frantic seeking of something isn't a great sign.
What is you ambient air temp? Remember royals have a short and a long lung. The long long is almost the length of the body and is responsible for a a lot of the core temps of the snake. The ground temps can be perfect but if the air temps are off it can be too warm or cold and be unable to regulate.

Re: Bp stopped using hides.....
I notice he is out lounging in the early morning mostly. I never see him trying to escape his tub - he seems content in his tub.
I guess he just prefers to lay on the hide instead of inside it sometimes. I measure temps with a temp gun so I am pretty sure the temp readings are accurate. My overall room temp stays close 79
