Animal Plastics Incubator
I recently received my AP Incubator http://www.animalplastics.com/ and hooked it up to a Herpstat Thermostat http://www.spyderrobotics.com/ I placed five thermometers including one Nist Certified FRIO-Temp Enviro-Safe™ Incubator Thermometer http://www.coleparmer.com/catalog/pr...0807759&pfx=EW
I must say I’m very impressed with this incubator as the Herpstat maintained the temperature inside with minus 1-degree fluctuation and was uniform throughout.
The incubator can hold 16 Sterilite 1717 boxes that can be purchased at WalMart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-...-of-6/11014790.

I've been looking at that one.

I was looking at that. Is it worth $800? I use an old full size refrigerator and I don't know if it's worth upgrading?

Re: Animal Plastics Incubator
In comparison to other incubators on the market and not wanting to convert an old refrigerator into an incubator or build one myself it was worth it to me otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s a great design, circulates the air without hot spots, looks good and does what it’s supposed to do plus I can monitor the eggs without opening the door.
I looked for some feedback on this incubator and couldn't find any so I figured for anyone looking for more information on this unit, here you go.

I am doing my research on an incubator right now. One thing I have been wondering is how efficeint are these incubators. For example, if you to unplug the heat source, how fast does the temperature fall? I guess some important statistics would be internal volume, starting temperature, ending temperature, and elapsed time. I wonder how these statistics would compare to homemade incubators. Of course this would have to be done without any water bottles, or there would have to be an established ratio of how much volume of water to how much internal volume of the incubator to keep things fair. Just currious if anyone knows how these, and other manufactured, incubators do at holding in the heat.

I just realized that I omitted another important statistic to keep track of, ambient temperature. Sorry for forgetting that one.
