I need everyone's opinons!
I've asked this before in the forum but did not get responses. I have also asked a few more knowledgeable sources and received very conflicting opinions. :/
So, I apologize for asking again, but I would really appreciate everyone's opinions before I do anything, so I'll try one more time!
I have a 48" x 16" x 14" tank that I've recently modified to fit a plexiglass hinged double door onto. Now, I have already made the divider but have yet to install it because I keep going back and forth on this matter.
I understand a 4' tank is big even for a full grown bp, but it was free so I've worked with what I have!
My question, would dividing it into two 24" x 16" x 14" (w x d x h) tanks be much too small for a grown BP?
My current BP is +/-30", male, approx. 2yrs old. I'm purchasing another towards the end of this year. So, should I go ahead and divide this tank to eventually use for two BPs, or should I just divide it into a 36" long tank and only use it for my male?
Thanks for your input!

Re: I need everyone's opinons!
I would divide it into a 36in tank. Most people recommend 41 quart tubs for adult bps, which are approx 34x16x6. So I would say that 24x16x14 would be a bit small for an adult as far as length goes. Kind of annoying to feel like you're wasting space, but you could always use it if you happen to get a baby bp I suppose.
Just my opinion

Thanks for the reply That's what I've been leaning towards, I'd rather have wasted space and him have adequate space. Just wanted to make sure before I seal the divider in! Hopefully by the time I get my next I'll be able to purchase a rack as well.

I would leave it at 48 and fill it with hides and plants (fake), maybe also black out the back and sides.
My son keeps his BP in a similar sized vivarium with no problems
Keep temps and humidity at the correct levels, and you should be OK.
By the way, I keep my Royals in both vivs and tubs, both succesfully

It depends on his size (grams) and behavior , generally males are kept in 28 qt tubs and the dims are approximately 24*16*6 so the only difference is on height. I would say that it would be ok to split the tank. I keep all my males in 28qt tubs and they eat like pigs.

I'd leave the tank as is and just fill the extra space with scenery. You will need two homes anyways because you will want to quarantine any new snakes gl

Re: I need everyone's opinons!
As has already been said, that's a teeny bit on the small side, so you could maybe make the tank into one bigger and one smaller enclosure, or you could just fill it up with decorations/hides and black out the sides.

Yeah, I assumed it was on the small side.. Just wanted everyone's opinions because I've seen extremely conflicting preferences on enclosure size. I think I've officially decided on 36" long and the extra space will just "be there" lol. I don't want to keep it at 48" because I would have to add things throughout it to "clutter" it.. which would make cleaning day unnecessarily difficult.

It is of course your decision. But I keep my adult males in tubs with the exact same floor space as if you divided the tank in half, and they do fine. Since males do not generally get as big as females, it is easier to keep them in smaller enclosures.
One thing to be aware of, in moving from such a cramped space, he may not appreciate the larger quarters at first and might go off food. I know my guys did when I made the switch from much too small tubs to appropriate sized ones. All you can do is wait it out.
