What is the earliest you have gotten a BP to eat F/T?

I am attempting breeding for the first time this season. My three adults currently take ft rats with no trouble at all.

I am only breeding one female, so I am not going to get into the rat breeding aspect as well. So, I will be running to the pet store quite a bit to buy rat pups.

I was just wondering; what is the youngest BP that you were able to get to eat ft?

Has anyone ever been successful or even tried to feed a baby ft for its very first meal?

    Thanks!
    George

The majority of our babies have taken f/t after a few live meals. I've had a few take f/t for their first meal too. It depends on the babies, if they are agressive feeders you shouldn't have a problem. I would just make sure the frozen is the same pray and size as what the live was and that the f/t you get is fresh (I've had them refuse older f/t pinks but the fresher pinks were not refused).

    Hi,

    I've never fed live.

It is a lot trickier to get them started though and I usually have to assist feed if they do not get the idea early enough.

They can be danged stubborn but I have never had one that wouldn't start on FT eventually. **touches wood**

Within the first month of feedings I made the switch seamlessly.

I have had no problem switching mine over after 1 or 2 live meals. I have found the 1 or 2 picky eaters you might get are that way matter what you give them(live, f/t). Some times you will get one that just refuses, it all depends on the individual animal but most are no problem..

Babies eat f/t after first shed. Never had to feed live. Just make sure the rats are hot and not dripping water on them (freaks them out), if you dry them and make sure they're really hot, you never have to feed live.
