    Bowl wrapping question

I have a female that has locked up several times this season. She has clearly been building and is huge. The last couple of times I have put a male in with her nothing happens. I thought maybe she ovulated and I missed it but today she is wrapped around her bowl. The male is still breeding other females so I don't think it's him. Any idea what she's' doing?

No need to introduce males anymore she's on her way.
    1. She's no longer interested.
    2. She's doing the whole wrapping around the bowl deal.

Next look for her pre lay shed. If she hasn't already. This indicates she's ovulated. This shedding is called as a pre-lay shed and is used by the female to form a nest. After about 30 days, she will begin to lay her eggs.
You need to prepare an incubation chamber by bringing home a 12qt Rubbermaid box. Fill it halfway worth vermiculite and add water to it, till it forms clumps. Make sure the mixture is not too wet as it will kill the eggs. If you feel the eggs are too dry, add a little more water. After placing the eggs in the vermiculite mixture, close the box. There is no need to place holes in the box as air will be circulated if you keep opening the box every couple of days to check on the eggs. Place the box in an incubator shelf. If you do not have an incubator, you can place an electric tape on the top of the tank and put a piece of 1/8 inch glass over the tank. This will help seal humidity and temperature in the tank. Incubate the eggs at a constant temperature of 89ºF for about 55 days.
Gradually, after laying eggs, the female will start eating normally.
    Best of luck!

Her back looks ridged...She may very well be gravid! Do you know how to palpate? This would help determine if she still has follicles or if she has ovulated and they are now eggs. At this point I would say get your incubator fired up and have all of your supplies ready...Just in case! Good luck!

I haven't been able to figure this girl out all season. This isn't my first time breeding. My incubatoris already setup and ready. I have never been able to palpate and don't even bother anymore. I assumed I just missed her ovualtion and that she was gravid but the bowl wrapping thing threw me for a loop. Normally they stay on the heat after they ovulate.

I agree...Bowl wrapping is normally associated with building, but she kind of looks gravid in the pics.

Her color isn't new to you? She looks bright. It never hurts to give the male another shot.

Looking at her picture, she looks very blushed and glowing. Typically an indication of a soon to come ovulation. A lot of people miss full blown ovulation and catch their females just before or after when they are still larger than normal. My guess is she is going to ovulate very soon, then following a pre-lay shed cycle, which typically happens about 2 weeks after ovulation, so wait for her to shed. That will start your 30 day countdown to eggs. After ovulation a gravid female is pretty easy to see even without palpating. Gently let her stretch out and lift her rear/tail off the ground, little less than 45 degrees. Get yourself a good angle to see her belly drop, and you should easily be able to see lumps with eggs if she's ovulated at this point. If you can't see it because you have a massive female, simply run light pressure with your finger under her belly when she's relaxed. Palpating for eggs is much easier and takes less pressure than feeling for follicles. They will feel like water balloons. By the looks of things, you're female looks to be going in the right direction, just be patient. Good luck
