baby snake or yearling?
So I am looking to get a snake at my local reptile expo later this year, and have been "preparing" by going to multiple pet shops and holding snakes.
most of the snakes i have held so far have been yearlings to adults and just about all of them have been quite nice.
My question is, if you buy a baby snake, are you rolling the dice when it comes to its temperament? I imagine that an older snake has developed its own attitude, and will probably stay the same tame/untame.
If i get a baby snake do i need to worry about it turning mean when it gets older?

No as babies they can be a bit nippy, with regular handling they settle down and become tolerant of handling

Actually, it really doesn't matter much if you get a baby or an adult. Both make great pets.
True babies are a little more work, and can be easier to startle or upset, but how do you think all those older snakes got such good temperaments ?
If you don't mind a little bit more effort, go with a baby so you can watch it grow up. It's pretty rewarding.
If on the other hand you doubt your snake-charming abilities, go with an older snake that someone has already taken down the road to being a good pet.
Either way you go, I have to warn you....
You'll never stop at just one!

I think for a first snake its better to go for a little older guy. A little more tolerant of mistakes and tend to be less picky with eating etc. Overall, just less stress for you as the owner.
