Crested Gecko Requirements?

I've been wanting a Crested Gecko for the longest time. I have lots of smaller and medium sized snakes but no lizards. I don't have room for most species so I think a crested gecko would be perfect. I just have a couple of questions. I've read on alot of care sheets and most say that room temp is fine. I keep my reptile room at a constant controlled 80 degrees. Im basically full compacity in my reptile room so the crested gecko is going in the living room. The temp in my living room ranges from about 72 at daytime and sometimes drops as low as 66 at night. Im wondering if 66 is to cool? Also planning on keeping him/her in an exo-terra 12"x12"x18". Would that be ok for one crested for its whole life? Thanks

Cresties are great!! A low of 66 is nothing to worry about. And a 12"x12"x18" Exo-Terra would do fine. Your Crestie would probably enjoy a 18"x18"x24" more, but it's not needed.

Just make sure that if you get a hatchling to not put it in the Exo until he/she is a good 10-15 grams. Kritter Keepers are great to start hatchlings in.

Thank you so much for the info!! Since one animal of any species is never enough, do you think a male & female duo would be ok in an 18"x18"x24"?

I wouldn't put a male and female together in an enclosure perminantly. The female will be constantly bred and they need their breaks, too. You'd be better off housing two females together and having a male separate, introducing him a week or so at a time until you get eggs. (That is, if you want to breed.)

Of course, some people house them together without problems. Just make sure you keep a good eye on the female as well as the male to make sure they're not too stressed from breeding. I've had males stop eating because they're too focused on breeding.
