feeding mishap

I fed one of my snakes a live mouse earlier today and as usual he was very aggressive about the feeding. Well, as he struck, he and the mouse ended up in the water bowl as the snake was constricting the mouse. I was in quite a nervous state. I tried to pull the snake with the mouse out of the water bowl but the snake just would not move. The snake was successful in killing the mouse and was fishing the dead mouse out of the water bowl. I had to go back and pull the dead mouse out of the water bowl and then lay it on the floor of the enclosure. Luckily, my snake still ate it. I have never had a feeding experience like this ever before. I think I will be removing the water bowl during feeding time for now on.

you know..the same thing happend to my jcp once! she was upside down in her water dish tryin to eat her mouse..it scared me too! but she is fine now. im sure yours will be ok too! ^-^; they are resilliant little creatures..(as far as i can tell!)

that happened to me today, and it wasn't the first time. seems fine to me, but i'm no expert

I've had this happen to me plenty of times, it's a silly little snake thing.

I had a hatchling bp do the same thing with a rat pup (frozen thawed though), and continued to eat the whole meal IN the water dish. Watched the whole thing, and took a pic.

I have had the same thing happen to me with my normal she was eating the mouse under water I pulled her out and she continued so no worries but it freaked me out at the time. I have since been told this is pretty normal and snakes can hold their breath quite a while.

I always pull them out when the wrap up and end up in the water.
The snakes hold on for dear life and I just set them elsewhere in their tub.

When she was in a smaller tub, my super pastel would wrap up and then deliberately drag her rat through the water bowl on her way to her hide to eat. I don't think they are too concerned about the surrounding terrain once they get into feeding mode!

I would not worry about this kind of thing or even intervene for that matter, it happens and they can handle the situation just fine own their own, once done eating just clean the water dish and put fresh water but no need to intervene should something like that happen again.

Eh, no biggie. That happens with my snakes a lot. I'm not sure why they do it, but it seems like they do it far too often I sometimes pull them out of the dish and they stay constricted around the rat. Other times I just leave them be, it depends on the snake. I have a few that refuse to eat wet rats, even if they are the ones who made the rat wet!
