ASF Pinky Too Much for Corns
I have a 5 month old butter stripe that is only 5 grams. I fed it a 2 gram African Soft Furred Rat pinky (less than 24 hours old) and it regurged. Do you think the rat pinky is physically too much (dense) for a corn snake to digest.
Husbandry is fine and it has eaten 2 gram mouse pinkies without a problem. This is the second regurge for this snake and I think I'll lose him if he has another.
Thanks.

How long has it been since the first regurgitation ?
You need to wait about 1-2 weeks before you feed again after a regurgitation, you also need to work your way back up from smaller to larger(larger/appropriate being 2grams for him), i suggest you wait another week and this time feed half a pinky not the whole thing.

Re: ASF Pinky Too Much for Corns
So you're saying that it has nothing to do with feeding ASF vs. mice pinkies.
I just want to make sure - feeding a 2 gram ASF pinky should work the same as feeding a 2 gram mouse pinky. Right?
Thanks.

Yeah i doubt it was the type of rodent,it is more than likely your feeding to big and to soon. You need to work your way up from half to whole over the next couple of weeks.

I'm not talking about size as much as density. The 2 gram pinkies are the same size.

did you try what i said if they are the same size then it doesnt matter if your snake cant handle it then cut it in half and offer it to him in sections. and what is your hot spot at??

A 5 gram corn will have a really hard time with an ASF pink. Get the smallest mouse pinks you can find and try those. If those are too big then cut the pinks in half. (not a live pink) Baby corns are very sensitive to meal size and will regurge anything even the slightest bit too big. I feed asf pinks to 12 gram+ corns.
