    Next addition

For those of you that were following the iguana thread I started last night, I just figured this would be simpler before that got totally off-topic and in the wrong forum.

I really wanted a BP, but I still live at home, and my grandpa has said that snakes are out of the question. So, does anyone have any suggestions/advice on some other pets to look at? I'm really open to any suggestions, because regardless I will want to do my research and decide what the best "fit" for me is.

We already have a beardie in the house, plus 2 dogs, and a cat.

hmmmmm.....lol....I was going to say a beardie.

Have you looked into Blue tongue skinks? Maybe even a frilled dragon? There is always uromastyx but they are not very interactive. Or you could do a chameleon? Just some things to look into to.

I'm still stuck on an iggy

I've never owned one or really been in contact with them often, but I loooove blue tongued skinks. the ones i have met/interacted with have always been so sweet and quirky. and i know i'd feel more comfortable with one of them rather than something a little more, well, agile.

pac-man frogs are cool and an aldino look cool, or a chameleon they both eat pinkys. but the pac-man frog would be easier to take care of. when they get bigger you can feed them mice or even small rats.

If you're stuck on an iggy, then get an iggy. You won't be satisfied until you get what you want. Kind of like craving a cheesburger, but eating a hot dog. Even if you like hot dogs, it's not what's going to hit the spot.

Get the ig, but realize that they are very difficult reptiles. Michelle told some good stories, but in the end, that ig was a handful. Which most igs can be.

But remember, pet ownership should be for the long haul. So be very careful. Remember the old saying...Be careful what you ask for, because you just may get it.

    Good Luck!

Going off my own experience owning iggies, beardies and blue tongues in the past (and since you have a beardie already ) I'd get a blue tongue before I'd get another iggie. They are even more chill than beardies and very cute.

I've only known one iggie I liked :/ and it was at the petstore I worked at back in high school. He would come out of the cage at feeding time and hang out on the cart while I hand fed him. Got him to the point where I could get him to climb onto my arm but as soon as it was time for him to go in he got agressive. I bet with time he could have be trained a bit more but that would'eve been a lot of work.

If you have the time to work with an iggie I'd say go for it and if your heart is set on one I'm sure you'd make a good iggie mom.

Some other advice, if you can find a place that has multiple animals to choose from you'll have a better chance at picking an iggie with a good temperment. Out of ALL the iggies at that pet store (maybe 20) only the one had an out going temperment that would make it easier to work with. Kinda like choosing the right pup from a litter . Good luck and pics when you bring a new baby home .

Gizmo is 1 in a 100. Really ...and he has his moments where I want to strangle him.....lol. But my baby iggy got me last night.....sliced my finger open. UGH....I don't think I will ever win with him.

BTS are funny and have some personality...and yes Quirky is a perfect explanation for them. Mine is hilarious as if she doesn't get to come out each night (she sleeps in during the day...and is a night owl...lol) anyways...she will pout in her cage and look like poo. As long as I get her out each night....she is bright ....excited..and funny. Her favorite thing to do is make tunnels in our bed. Seriously I think she could do this for HOURS!!!!! The other day she was on the couch with my hubby and I. We had the recliners out so she would crawl down our legs....onto the coffee table ...all around the table then back up my husbands legs...all around the couch, and then repeat. lol She is a rescue and was seriously abused when I got her. Bad case of MBD and has NO toes. Also her tail was broken (not off but broken) and her wrist was broken. Seriously she is so funny as she totally has the guilt trip down. If you check out that website for BTS there are some breeders on their with beautiful skinks.

Well, an iggy is out for now also. I mentioned it and my dad's response was, "They're mean. Besides, once Justin moves here, you'll have one." Now that my grandma thinks they're mean, that will be out of the question. See why Justin just needs to hurry it up and move down here so I can have Spice? Lol.

I must say though, the blue tongue skinks are CUTE. Like, so ugly they're cute, lol. Is their temperment usually pretty good? I know each animal will be different, but I'm just looking for an idea here. Also, how about enclosures? Would I need something REALLY big for one? Lastly, would it be likely that they may be sold at the reptile show coming through in May? I've never been to one, so I'm not sure what animals are even typically at one..

Have you considered a tortoise? They have always seemed super cool to me. Seem super relaxed too. I also think the blue tongues are cute
