Pics from first grade love of reading day...

So I read to over 100 first graders today. Princess bob and Ernie the uromastyx came to help out. We read The Frog In The Bog!! Awesome fun lil kid story about a frog....eating different bugs in a swamp. He THINKS he sitting on a sunken log. If you have lil ones....this story is soooooooooo much fun to read to them.

There was like 10 sets of hands on the Uro at one time!!! I'm sure everyone had a blast and the Uro's probably didn't care one bit.

lol no....anything under 90 and he pretty much could care less. Each child got to hold the Uro for a little bit and then passed him to another. Princess Bob the beardie was surrounded at one point in the pictures and she was sooo cool about it. In fact she is such a showman she just let them pet her and of course did the licky licky thing. The kids thought she was kissing them. Too cute

With this week being love of reading the whole week is dedicated to ppl coming in and reading to the kids. I use to work at the school for a few years and have a great relationship with everyone. But I do a lot of volunteering at the school anyways. Everyone at the school knows that I have lots of reptiles and last year we did a reptile "expo" with over 400 kids and over 50 reptiles. it was covered in our local paper ...actually on the front page....so cool!

I just call in and let them know....or they will often call me and ask. I did approach one of the 8th grade science teachers in regards to doing some science genetic teaching with the snakes and it looks like she wants to do it. So that will be really really fun. Last year she approached me in regards to doing a class on parasites in reptiles but unfortunately it was too close to the end of the year to get it done.

Once I get my company up and running and everything in order ...then I will actually advertise to do it at other schools in the Tucson area. Its just such an amazing feeling to watch these kids light up and truly have a real passion to learn about the reptiles. Plus its a blast to be the super hero in their eyes.....lol

I should move out to Tuscon and work for you! haha.

What a great idea. My booth at my colleges.. fair? Its the ImagineRIT symposium or something. The second year we did it, I had a booth at (omg going through the insurance stuff, I got calls from the insurance people, from the college, from LP, from 4 other people about the "man eating snake") Technically, people were not aloud to touch the snake.. but to heck with that rule. I think we clocked 200 visitors in 8 hours. My booth actually opened early, and closed late because SO many people were interested. I couldn't talk the next day but it was totally worth it. I've got a thread with pics somewhere I'll send them to you.
