wait for a more informed answer but I would say try to stick with adult mice if the snake is eating them fine. Perhaps the sanke is not ready for the rat. All snakes have slightly different metoblizisms, not to mention their easy ability to imprint on certain prey. As long as you are offering food to the snake on a regular basis, it will eat when it wants to.
