AstroTurf, pre-cut for the enclosure, and I keep a spare piece for each snake. Spot cleaned when soiled and replaced with the fresh piece at feeding time...then its bleach sanitized, rinsed, and allowed to air until the next feeding. They get replaced with new pieces every 6 to 9 months, basically when it starts to discolor from the bleaching.

I did Aspen shavings for a while, and had issues with my male getting it stuck in his heat receptors. Ever since the AstroTurf change, cleaning the enclosure is amazingly easy, and I don't spend a small fortune on substrate every couple months. Just $5 at home depot and a couple minutes with a razor knife.

I use coco husk and absolutely LOVE it. Keeps the humidity really high and helps my lil guy shed. Really nice too if he spills any water anywhere.

    Cheers,

I use newspaper. I used to use mulch but it gets annoying after a while for spot cleaning. You don't always see urinate spots, especially if they move the mulch around. Newspaper is so much more convenient, practically cost free, cleaner, and they don't get any of it in their mouth.

Re: What bedding do you use??

I started on newspaper, didnt like it, switched to aspen, didnt like that either, then switched to unprinted newspaper, and it is possibly the best decision I've ever made! I originally didnt like newspaper cause whenever some water got spilled the ink would stain the tubs and the snake, the aspen I didnt like because it was too dusty and occasionally made it hard to spot clean(my snakes were burying their poo/urates) and it also made it harder to maintain hotspot temps cause the snakes would move substrate around so it was different thickness in all the tubs. unprinted newspaper solved all of those problems in one fell swoop! I always see the poos/urates, the hotspot temps are always the same in every tub, there is no dust at all and no ink to stain the tubs or snake! Its wonderful!..the only issue I have ever had with it is humidity getting a little low, but that is solved with a weekly misting.

I use Aspen or newspaper but I'm considering switching back to cypress for my boaphiles. They are harder to clean than tubs and the cypress is easier to spot clean while holding in moisture. The big problem I find with Aspen is how fast it grows mold. If the humidity is high, mold will grow in a matter of days. Especially if you spray it. This seems to defeat the purpose when BPs require fairly high humidity but cypress is much more expensive.

I wish I could find some place local to buy larger bags of cypress at wholesale. If so, I would just switch to that.

Coconut husk gets ridiculously dusty, I don't recommend anyone using that.
