    Hogg island boas

I was wondering, are hoggs better than ball pythons? Do they get bigger? Are they more docile? Basically I just want to know the care for Hoggs and are they better than ball pythons.

Their care is similar to ball pythons. As adults, they will either be as big as or a little bit larger than adult ball pythons (both species average 3-5 feet adult length).

They aren't necessarily "better" than ball pythons. It's your personal preference, really. One thing to note is that boas generally accept food more readily than ball pythons. Ball pythons are also easily stressed. Also, if your Hogg gets fairly large as an adult, you may need special caging requirements like a Boaphile cage.

Most Hoggs are significantly larger than ball pythons, usually better feeders, and can be a little nippy as hatchlings, but (with regular handling) will become extremely docile adults. They are not as nervous as ball pythons and most are very curious. Husbandry is very similar to husbandry for ball pythons, besides the fact that a full-grown Hogg is going to need a 4x2ft cage and larger food items.

You can't really compare the two, as they are both extremely different but are still very desirable snakes for different reasons. Care is similar, size is pretty similar as well but you can expect a Hogg to be a little larger than a ball. As for temperament, balls are extremely docile, and Hoggs can be nippy when they're young, as was stated, but they usually mature into docile adults, though they are significantly more active than ball pythons, who will be happy to just sit and chill on your arm.

I can't win! Haha. There was another thread where I basically said what you said, but then people told me that Hoggs would be about the same size as adult ball pythons (3-5 feet). I could have sworn that I've seen Hoggs that were much bigger than ball pythons, though.

Yeah, there are a lot of controversial opinions... people say Hoggs are similar in size to ball pythons, but they're really not. Sure, a small Hogg and a big ball could be the same size, but you can expect a Hogg to be much larger than your average ball. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure there have been some 7ft+ Hoggs.

The controversy with size could be because Hoggs aren't as "chunky" as balls, so in overall size maybe they're saying that yeah, a 7 ft Hogg is about the same as a larger ball because of the fatness difference...

Hogg Islands for sure get bigger than ball pythons, largest male I had was around 6.5 ft and his female (owned by a friend of mine) was around 7.5 ft and the girth on that girl.. WOW! Big Girl! For sure.

yeah , my hogg island female is significantly bigger than my BP's, and bigger than most BP's I've seen and about twice as thick.
