    RIP Jambi

    Well..

I'm very suspicious of our breeder ATM.

We bought our female normal at the end of November, he would not eat for us once. After about 3 weeks and everyone flipping out on here we assist fed him. He still continued to not eat. On Christmas eve we handed her over to our breeder to watch over her. She continued to not eat. We would call them and check up on her once a week and they would get mad and say they will call us if something changes. So we left them alone for 2 weeks. I called this afternoon, and basically they told me that she ate, regurgitated, and passed away three days later, this week.. What I find suspicious about this whole thing is that our breeder feeds his balls, plus ours on tuesdays.. Which would mean it has only been one day. It's not hard to say that he obviously doesn't like us, and we have taken our business elsewhere. But something is weird with this whole situation. He sold us a bp that must have had some sort of problems, cause all 3 of our other ones are doing great. It doesn't seem we are going to get reimbursed.

I am curious though. What could cause regurgitation and death?

Any ways, this whole thing has been very tragic for us, we are incredibly hurt to lose our first snake and regretful of even letting him have her back in the first place.

I just wish we could have done more.

    Sorry for your loss

I have a baby that I hatched out in late oct. (49g), that refuses to eat on it's own she dropped down to 38g. Assist feeding was a disaster, I had to resort to tube feeding for a week, she finally took a tiny asf with assist tonight.

At least she isn't suffering anymore...

For regurgitating and death, it could have been an internal parasite. If you hadn't noticed any odd behavior from her when you had her then I wouldn't say IBD although regurgitation is a symptom and it is ultimately fatal. It could have been anything, really. Good move taking your business elsewhere, I wouldn't trust those people. :S

Yeah, they didnt even call us to tell us she had passed.. They got angry at us the whole time saying they would tell us if anything happened... I had to call them, have the owner answer and say he will call me back.. wait 2 hours then call back for someone else to answer, and tell me she had passed.

The problem is that they are the only big bp breeders around my area..

The guy I got my other two girls from only has one, and the place we got our pinstripe from has a few.

instead of staying local branch out and find reputable breeders who will ship you a quality animal and not be a pain to deal with after the sale. some animals just dont make it, mybe they sold the animal before he was ready to go anywhere. a lot of factors could have played into this.

Well, they say they have all these guarantees.

But I really dont trust them in any way whatsoever.. Their website has gone down, and all this. So I think theres more of a chance they would resell him for money. Apparently the reptile industry in this area is pretty tight..

I definitely think I will.. Looking at some of the prices, like royalconstrictors or BHB, they're really good for common morphs.. Naturally some of the other ones are ridiculously expensive.. like the female killer blast they have for 5500 *drool*. But that goes without saying.

I'm really sorry to hear that. That's pretty messed up. Are you going to post anything on Fauna about them? You don't have your location posted, so we don't even know where these guys are located. You might save someone else from a headache if you post about them, on this website or any other.

Also if you post your location, others may know of a reputable breeder in your area! The larger breeders will ship and if you go with a place like BHB, you know you will get a great animal and they will be there to back up any guarantee! I would ask them for a replacement or a refund! Any good breeder will do that to make a customer happy! The worst they can say is no! At this point, you have nothing to lose! The snake should have been fed at least 3 meals before being sold and this should have shown any health problems. There are many factors in why it would not eat but the breeder should make it right! I am so sorry for your loss and hope your next snake lives a healthy long life! Good luck!

    The breeder is J & J Reptiles..

They have been claimed as a very reputable breeder in our area, some people drive several hours to come over here.

From what I've seen though they have no respect or care for their customers or animals.. They keep them all to the bare minimum, and would rather allow a snake to die than take any precautionary measures.

I have been looking around though at those websites. Alot of them seem fairly reliable so I think I will go with them next time.

    Which J & J are they ?

If you do a search for that name, they pop up all over the place. You don't have your location in your profile, so no one has any way to know where abouts you are.

I am sorry this happened to you. I had a similar experience. I bought a young snake from a supposedly reputable local breeder. The baby was small, but I was told it was feeding on live mice.

We had the baby for 2 months without it eating. We tried ever trick we could find information on to entice it to eat. After 2 1/2 months of struggle, she took one live mouse. She then went back off feed. At the end of 4 months of struggle, we traded her to someone with more experience in dealing with non-feeders. Last I heard, at 2 years old she is still under 500 grams and only eats once every month.

We were fortunate that we got her help and didn't loose her, but when we contacted the breeder we bought her from, he blamed it all on us. He said it was our husbandry, our food, our feeding method, on and on. He refused to admit it was even possible that the baby wasn't established before he sold it or to offer us any help. Needless to say, I won't be buying from him again.
