Power outage - multiple days.. advice?
So right now we are getting slammed with a really bad ice storm. they are talking about possible power outages lasting numerous days. last night they said maybe a day or so.. now its multiple days.
I dont have a generator and really dont have the cash this week to get one.. i went and bought a bunch of those foot warmers for a 24 hour kinda of thing... but if its 2-3....4 days... any advice? Temp in my room right now is mid 60s.. tanks are all 90s but if the power goes out that will drop VERY fast.
We are in a ice emergency and cant even go out right now.. so i cant even go get more foot warmer thingys. Im super worried because people are losing power more and more..

Re: Power outage - multiple days.. advice?
If you can't get out and are running low on heat pack you will have to do it the old fashion way: Hot water bottles (if you have any), or regular bottles of water filled up with hot water wrapped in a dish cloth.
Snakes placed in a cooler or insulated box with the hot watter bottles, if you use regular bottle of water they will have to be re-filled often.
In the future I would highly recommend you to invest in something like this http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-F232...6604879&sr=8-1 to keep your snake room warm.

Re: Power outage - multiple days.. advice?
I am dealing with the same problem. It is expected to get -40 tonight where I am and am worried that my electricity will go out. Fortunately I have a gas stove so I can just boil some water to keep me and my snake worm but if my gas pipes freeze (which is possible) I was thinking about keeping him under my cloths close to my body so that he will at least be a little warmer.

desperate times call for desperate measures. i'd do the same thing ewelch said about tucking the snake under some clothing, then i'd put on a sweater, or jacket even, to create more body heat.

i lost power in el paso last year and it was cold, we only had two snakes so the wife and i grabbed one each and just put them in our shirts and laid on the couch with blankets. worked good for only two snakes but not more than that. lol i need a generator or somethin cuz MA is gettin spanked right now.
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

You could also cover the tanks with a thick blanket to help hold in the heat from the heat packs. We got hit with the storm in MO but got mostly snow so we didn't lose power, I hope it doesn't get too bad for you all.
