    Pre Lay Shed Question

Ok. As I have discussed a bit in here, I have a female granite who is currently locking with a male spider. Well, she actually was in the process of shedding when they were locking up yesterday. I am pleased to announce that she has shed off all of her skin, and it looks like an exceptionally healthy shed.

I have NEVER started this late in the breeding season. With having shed at this point in time, will I see a pre lay shed? Or no?

if she ovulates then yes you will have a pre lay shed. it appears she has just shed before ovulation as most will do but there is no real timeline for this shed. just keep pairing according to schedule and only time will tell.

Unfortunately, she remained locked through somewhat successful shedding last night. SHe remains locked still, however, she has about 30% of her shed on her still. Looks like a stubborn patch of skin, but I haven't touched her in respect for their lock.

Should I remove the skin now or let it sit there until their done doing their thing? We're going on hour 19 here... They've been at it since 2 PM yesterday...

    Re: Pre Lay Shed Question

I never touch them while locked. I see no harm in leaving it there until they are finished.

I had a similar situation two nights ago. my female was about to shed but I could tell both her and my male were interested so I just took out the female and let her shed, came out perfect. paired them again the next morning and had a 15 hour lock so try that next time and see if it works for you as well. but for now I'd let them stay locked, do whatever method you like most with that patch of skin if it's still there after a day or two.

Usually the prelay shed comes about 16 days after the preovy shed according to this site: http://www.ballpython.ca/gallery/breeding.html
