I find that kind of odd, as you are using infrared.. My infrared absolutely destroys the humidity.
What are you using to measure the humidity?

1) where do you live
2) what is the ambient humidity of the room that your snake cage is in
3) are you using a digital hygrometer to measure humidity? If not, this can be off by as much as 40%.. they are pieces of crap and totally inaccurate.

is it accurate? My zoo med is 27% low... the test is easy. Paper is hydroscopic and draws moisture out of the air and becomes damp. Tear a bit off and see if it feels damp if it does it is likely a bit too high if it doesn't again likely it isn't.
salt test link...

if it is out you'll have to just do the figuring it cannot be adjusted.

I can tell you that your humidity is not 80% with a screen lid, idc if your in Miami, FL. It's winter.
Run to walmart, go to the paint section. Then go an isle over and you will find a accurite hygrometer. This is the most accurite thing that is not ridiculously expensive.
BTW 70's humidity is not bad
