    Monster Cricket

So I just my first Beardie this past weekend at the White Plains Reptile expo. Once I held her in my hand I knew she was coming home with us no matter how much I told myself beforehand that this was just a viewing trip. Anyway over the past couple of days I've been building up her habitat and feeding her dusted crickets pretty much everyday. I bought the package of crickets from a big box pet store and dumped about 10 in a cup. After dropping them in her cage though I noticed one was gigantic and before I could even grab it out she devoured it. She sat for a few seconds and kinda shook her body...looked like she was trying to get it down then went back to her basking spot leaving the rest of the crickets alone. Is there anything I should be looking out for now or will she be fine?

Just an FYI I feel terrible about letting something that big in there with her

We would really need to know how big she is and how big the cricket was? It sounds like she got it down ok though. Maybe it would be wise to not handle her for a while, so it can properly digest?

she is a baby I'd say about 5 inches long. If you have ever bought crickets from a petsmart they would be classified as large. I'd say that it would probably be slight larger than a quarter.

Well Pets Mart large crickets are typically about 4 weeks. Yea that is too big for her. You want to feed her a size that approx. fits between her eyes. I am sure she will be fine just make sure she is basking and that she poops in the next couple of days. It was one so it should be not a big deal.

The reason you have to be careful with beardies is they can easily become impacted and not able to go poddy. I doubt one cricket will do that. Once she poops after eating that cricket all should be well. Don't forget to offer her greens everyday!! She may not eat them but keep offering. Its a good practice to get her started on right away.

This is a great site for food....kind of like the beardie food bible.. http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtrem...nframeset.html

by the way congrats on joining the beardie club....you are going to LOVE IT!!!!!!!

ugh....lil pooper! That was Bob for the first 6 months. Just continue to give them everyday and lil Was. will eventually take some. You can also figure out his favorite fruit and chop some up real good and mix it deep in the salad. lol We moms have our ways of convincing them to eat their greens. Now if I could only get the HUMAN child to...

Herp....I am so happy to hear we had a touchdown on the poo poo...lol YEA.

Pretty sad how excited we get about stinky poop huh...
