    snake gender and offspring ratio

Im a new ball python owner and have a question. Does the gender of a snake have any affect on the genetic outcome of the hatchlings. The reason im asking is everyone seems to want females rather than males.

Not sure I'm understanding the ?, for people that are breeding, yes they want more females.

Thanks for the reply. I was on Worldofballpythons.com and there was a genetics wizard calculator which calculated/estimated offspring ratio. If you bred a male (whatever) to a female (whatever) it calculated what the offspring might be. It was interesting. Thanks again.

Think about it this way.. If you have 3 females and 1 male, you can *hopefully* breed him with all 3. On the other hand, if you have 3 males and 1 female, you end up with less babies at once. So yes, if you're breeding, it sorta makes more sense to have a larger female to male ratio, because it raises your chances to breed.

females make babies, thats why you want more females, males can breed multiple females.

I should also add that with 3+ gene animals males tend to be wanted, because you can breed them to multiple females.

Larger females are usualy worth ALOT more then larger males.. because a male you can get to breading size in 6-12 months... a female is usualy 2-3 years...
