Texas snake permit
So I just realized that you need a permit in Texas to own asiatic rock pythons or python molurus and seeing as how I have a Burmese python or Python molurus bivittatus which would be a subspecies I assume I need a permit. Someone please inform me because when I talked to parked and wildlife they didn't make it seem like I did but then at the time I didn't know that they were the same species! If I do, do I just go pick one up or is there a process cuz I'm close to the 21 days

So for those who saw this post and either didn't reply or who truly didn't know and are wondering, you do, it's 20 dollars and you just need a drivers license

I have the permit for my reticulated python. you can get it at walmart. The permit to own/transport your animal is just $20 bucks but if your a breeder you will have to get the $60 permit.

There is a small write up about the exotic snake permit requirement in Texas, statewide which went into effect on 04-01-2008 in the June 2008 Reptiles Magazine. There is also info' on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website under exotic snake permits. It includes all venomous snakes not indigenous to Texas and the 5 considered largest snake species: Python sebae, Python molurus, Python reticulatus, Python natalensis, & Eunectes murinus. Any hybrids are also included. As stated previously the recreational permit is $20.00 per yr. and can be obtained at any place hunting & fishing licenses are sold. It allows the keeper to possess & transport an unlimited number of snakes.
The commercial use permit is $60.00 per yr. and has to be purchased at a Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept., at least that is the info' I was given when inquiring about both permits. This permit allows the commercial keeper to possess, transport & sell an unlimited number of snakes.
I feel we have a pretty lenient law, at least for now. Lets hope it doesn't get more strict in the future. I keep retics & burms, plus smaller snake species & bought my recreational permit to stay legal. The last thing any of us needs is to give the law makers another reason to ban our snakes!
