That's very, very common. I usually leave it and clean up once they're done...which can sometimes take a day or two but it never seems to hurt anything...

edit: as long as they're not laying in pools of pee...if you have a substrate that soaks up most of it I wouldn't worry...

Re: to clean or not to clean

If it's pretty bad, I usually do a quick cleaning and throw them back in (as long as they aren't too involved in anything). If they seem to be courting heavily....i just leave them until they are done.

Re: to clean or not to clean

It's quite common for them to pee and poo before allowing the male to do his thing
I never clean till I pull the male.

I think it's part of the mating process. Look at every "Lock" thread that has pictures and you'll see a mess in pretty much every one. I let them do their business and clean up afterwards.

Agreed, I would not clean it. It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen every now and again, and it drives to boys crazy to be in that stink...yuck. They aren't going to get scale rot sitting in it for a day, and most likely they have room to get out of it. They could very well lock up today, and once they are done you can pull the male and get it cleaned up.

I had family come over to see the snake last month and I had just thrown in the male a few hours before they got here. When I took them to see the snakies the female has just made a nasty mess of her cage. That was really embarrassing because I had to explain that's what happens and that I don't let my snakes sit in filth.

Re: to clean or not to clean

It happens to me too ! She will normally wet the whole enclosure but one thing I realized are those moisture tend to stimulate the male to do more actions

As long as they are not soaking in pee or poo for 3 days or more, it should be fine. But try best to only clean after they are done locking up or both of them doesn't show any interest in each other anymore. Note that female wetting the enclosure doesn't mean confirm lock ups but that's what normally happens in breeding/

Try to check on them but minimum disturbance.

    Cheers

For sure... there is some serious pheromone action going on in that tub, don't clean it till they are done.
