How many tubs/drawers do you have? If more than 1 or 2 I'd say get something more reliable. Also heat tape can get hot so it's always recommend to have a good thermo and a seconds as a back up..

Temp guns will make your life sooo much easier it's not even funny! I don't know how I lived without one before.
I'm a big fan of herpstat, because it is proportional so it's a lot easier on your heating source than an on/off one and I find it's more accurate, plus it lets you see exactly what temp it's at and what it's doing at any time.
1.0 Normal - Maynard
1.0 POG - Victor
0.1 YB - Diana
0.1 Pastel Boa - Astrid

I have a 5 drawer adult rack that uses that Tstat so I'm definitely gonna buy a herpstat for that rack as well as my hatchling rack. if she doesn't shed in a week then im gonna get her checked out.

I'm not a breeder, but isn't there supposed to be a pre-ovulation shed?

they will typically shed before they ovulate but you really can't go by it or say she will ovy in x days after shed like you can with the post ovy shed.

Re: what the hell is goin on with my normal female
alright so here is my findings and what i did about it. after watching the tstat for about an hour or so i found that even when set at 82 for the hot side it will go down to 82 but shoot up to 103 then back down again which is completely unreasonable. the probe was placed directly on my flexwat and the temps were shown accordingly. i knew the floor of the sterilite was around 94 when the tstat would click on and now i know the actual temp was well over 100. this explains why she would have red lines on her belly from the paper towel being crunched up and it being so hot it left impressions on her and my male pastel. this tstat was a gift so im just gonna cut my losses.
Tonight i spent $247 of holiday bonus money and got a herpstat for the adult rack and will buy one for hatchling as well when the time comes. also bought a temp gun for easier temps and accuracy. last but not least im going to give the thinkgeek, reptile pro, accutemp, exo terrra incubator a try, they are all the same thing. im going to build a gutted fridge incubator next season for my multiple pairs, this season im just going to use the mini fridge.figure since im getting it now ill be able to tweak it to exactly what i need by the time eggs come around. it will be good to have as well because who knows what other reptile eggs i may want to incubate....hmmm i could see beardies down the line
sorry for the novellll

Just about to go into shed. My bp's going through the exact same thing. Give her a couple of days and her eyes should cloud up and she will shed.

Well if your other pythons are red as well it's prob the heat. Unless they are all shedding at the same time (unlikely but possible depending on how many). I think your on the right track getting a proportional thermo.

yeah. I have her and an 05 male pastel. he had some red lines every so often and now I realize it's from the paper towel scrunched up leaving impressions. I'm pretty appalled that this Tstat is on the market tbh. it was a gift so I just decided to cut my losses and buy a herpstat. I won't think twice before buying another one for my hatchling rack when that time comes. I'm just glad I caught this and you guys were able to help me through it. I want the first year breeding to be as smooth as possible and a reliable Tstat where its at.
I have it set at 82 just so when it spikes up it doesnt go past 93. so dumb.
